As if we didn’t need yet another reason to enjoy this awesome beverage, right?
Instead of spending money on high-end scrubs from the department store, you can easily craft a scrub just by simply repurposing your morning coffee grounds.
Coffee is well known for its ability to reduce the appearance of cellulite and it’s no secret that caffeine is cellulite enemy #1. This favorite beverage of many is a natural diuretic, which means it helps to flush the body of excess fluid. When the grounds are applied topically, it dehydrates fat cells closest to your skin’s surface making them less noticeable and temporarily smaller in size-ultimately causing your skin to appear tighter and more smooth. #coffeeforthewin
There are many schools of thought about whether or not cellulite can actually be cured (a “cure” is NOT what this post is about however). There are those who believe that cellulite is an underlying fascia problem, while others believe that it is simply a genetic trait that some of us are unfortunately predisposed to (we’ll leave that discussion for another time).
Though no matter what school of thought you belong to – when applied religiously, coffee scrubs have been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite – especially when used over time.
Adding this coffee scrub to your morning beauty routine a few days a week is a wonderful way to exfoliate your skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite and keep your complexion glowing.
1/2 cup Coffee Grounds
1/4 cup Raw, Unrefined, Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil
2 drops of Cypress essential oil
2 drops of Grapefruit essential oil
2 drops of Juniper essential oil
I use these essential oils for their ability to aid in detoxification and support a healthy fluid balance in the body.
Combine the coffee and coconut oil, mixing until you form a paste. Once thoroughly mixed, add the essential oils and stir again. Now it’s ready for use! See how simple that was?
*If your coconut oil is too hard, microwave it in a microwave-safe bowl for a few seconds until soft. Don’t burn yourself!
Use this in the shower and apply your scrub to areas with cellulite. Massage the scrub onto skin in a circular motion before rinsing. Repeat every time you shower for best results.
*Be super careful-the coconut oil can make your shower floor slippery!

I don’t know about you, but I’m an avid coffee drinker (probably more than is good for me). I also love using a good mask or scrub on my skin every once in a while, but they can be pricy. So, when I started seeing lots of recipes popping up with DIY scrub recipes, I was super excited. This one uses ingredients you already have on hand–coffee grounds and olive oil–so it’s super inexpensive to make.
Did you know that coffee grounds have amazing benefits for your skin? Caffeine actually helps tighten the skin, which can help reduce cellulite. When applied under and around the eyes, it can minimize the appearance of puffy eyes because caffeine restricts blood vessels, which reduces swelling and inflammation. It can also help treat non-hereditary dark circles under the eyes.
Apply Cellulite scrub all over in the shower a few times a week to desired areas such as thighs, belly, and arms, and rinse off.
Along with helping to reduce cellulite, Grapefruit essential oil is great to use for oily skin. Grapefruit oil is a natural astringent, so it can help remove any excess oil from the skin. When used, it has also been known to help reduce the appearance of blemishes.
Grapefruit oil is also known for its invigorating citrus scent and delicious, tart taste. It can also support weight-management programs when taken internally and paired with a healthy diet and exercise.* Add Grapefruit Vitality oil (labeled for ingestion) to water to give your drinks a little zing, or add a hint of citrus by incorporating it into culinary recipes.
*When taking oils internally, all statements made on this blog refer to Young Living’s pure therapeutic essential oils. I do not recommend using any other brand internally.
